The National Health Laboratory Service says it is working to restore its compromised IT system and infrastructure after a cyber attack.

CEO Koleka Mlisana confirmed that the breach affected data centres and took down the website.

Speaking to Newzroom Afrika, Mlisana says that despite challenges, diagnostic services continue to be provided manually to public hospitals.

She emphasised that built-in security measures are being implemented to prevent future attacks and expects stabilisation by mid-July.
