KwaZulu-Natal Economic Development and Environmental Affairs MEC, Siboniso Duma has announced that Durban will no longer be hosting the South African Music Awards (SAMA).

Opposition parties raised eyebrows about the R28 million rands that was set to fund the event, which was expected to take place in Durban next month, in November.

Speaking during a media briefing Duma confirmed, that the event will no longer be held in Durban.

Duma says the KZN province pulled out from these awards following consultation with other stakeholders.

He says the provincial government will be focusing on resolving issues faced by the province including finding ways of alleviating poverty.
