At least 5.2 million young people in South Africa mostly in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng do not attend school.
This after the census released the latest statistics results claiming that more than 200 thousand more pupils have stopped attending.
The Programme Director for the Zero Dropout Campaign, Merle Mansfield, says pupils leave school because of various reasons that may have occurred outside or inside the school.
She further adds that the learners who drop out are from the ages of 5 to 24 but the main problem is with graders in high school.
