Two young Nkandla runners have made a strong impression at the inaugural Nkandla Marathon, with 17-year-old Silindokuhle Thusi and 20-year-old Busani Nsele both taking top honours in the 10km Mayoral Cup race.
The pair finished first in the 10km event and each received R2 000 in prize money.
The race got underway in Vumanhlamvu before runners made their way to the finish at Nkandla Stadium.
For Nsele, the victory has also brought him a step closer to a bigger goal, competing in the Comrades Marathon one day.
The Grade 12 learner from Lushaba Secondary School says the race was tough in the early stages, but staying focused and sticking to his plan helped him get through it.
Nsele says he put in the necessary work ahead of the race and gained valuable experience from the event.
He now hopes to build on his performance and continue developing as a runner, with his sights firmly set on one day taking on the Comrades Marathon.
