Banyana Banyana have secured their spot in the third round of the Olympic qualifiers after getting the better of DR Congo in their two-legged tie. South Africa secured a 2-0 home victory, through a Thembi Kgatlana brace, and progressed to the third round with a 3-1 aggregate victory after the first leg in Kinshasa ended in a one-all draw. Kgatlana scored her two goals in the last 20 minutes of the match, and kept South Africa’s dream of qualifying for the Olympic games alive.
South Africa have made it to the third round where they will face the winner between Tanzania and Botswana, who will play their second leg encounter on Monday evening (Tanzania lead by 2-0 on aggregate). If South Africa get a positive result in the third round they will move into the fouth and final round, which will then decide the top two African teams who will qualify for the Paris games next year.
