Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos believes his team has grown with each game at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, as they progressed to the quarterfinals of the tournament. South Africa recorded a 2-0 win over Morocco at the Stade de San Pedro on Tuesday, to eliminate one of the pre tournament favourites in what was another huge upset in the AFCON finals. Second half goals by Evidence Makgopa and a class kick by midfield ace Tebogo Mokoena ensured that Bafana Bafana book a place in the last eight where they will meet Cape Verde at Yomoussoukro on Saturday night.

South Africa had a slow start to the tournament as they suffered a 2-0 loss against Mali in their Group E opener, but managed to bounce back with an impressive 4-0 win over neighours Namibia and held their nerve to play a goalless draw against Tunisia to progress as runners up in the group. The win over Morocco was the third clean sheet in a row for Hugo Broos’ men which is the most of any team at this years tournament. The Belgian mentor believes his team has grown with each match in Cote D’Ivoire, and the victory over the Atlas Lions is a testament to that growth.
