The Durban Regional Court has sentenced an Operation Dudula member to a fine of 10 000 or 3 imprisonment, half of which, has been suspended for five years, for contravention of the Cybercrime Act.
Philani Gumede was convicted for the dissemination of a data message inciting property damage or violence.
According to National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Natasha Ramkisson-Kara, disseminating messages like this is equivalent to assuming authority over the law, and the courts will not tolerate such disregard for the law.
