Springboks coach uRassie Erasmus has hinted that uSiya Kolisi might not lead the Springboks in this years international Rugby season, due to his preference of having a locally based Boks captain. Erasmus has made a return to the Springboks coaching bench after leaving his Director of Rugby position to lead the Boks into the next four year cycle, that will culminate with 2027 Rugby World Cup in Australia.

Kolisi is currently playing in the colours of French side Racing 92, a team he joined last year after making the switch from the Sharks. Erasmus has admitted that the double World Cup winning captain has been playing excellent Rugby for his French team and will be considered for selection in the upcoming International season, even though he may not lead the side.

“I actually think he (Kolisi) is playing some of his best Rugby, he looks really relaxed.” Erasmus said to reporters during a press conference on Tuesday.

“I always love to have our captain locally based as that allows for more interaction, it would be great just to call and the guy hops on a flight and we have a weekend together to plan and do things, work out stuff.”

” This is a unique situation, he will be considered I think he will play some test matches cause he definitely wants to and he is playing well enough. What are we gonna do about the captaincy? If I get the feeling that it is doable and the players know him so well after working together for 8 years now, maybe there is place for that but first I have to suss it out and see if it works or not.”
