On the 18th of July, many events take place around the world to honor Mandela Day, including the 67 Minutes of Service movement. This initiative encourages people to volunteer in community projects to commemorate the 67 years of Mandela’s public service.
As the #1 Regional Commercial Radio Station, and an organization that cares for KZN, we prioritize being involved in giving back to various communities every year. Nelson Mandela Day serves as a call to action, urging people, communities, and businesses to pause and reflect on the values that Mandela held dear.
Today, the Gagasi FM team at large will be driving to:
- Zinqobele High School in Mthunzini
- Dawede Primary School in Molweni, Hillcrest
- Nhlanhleni Primary School in eMpophomeni, Howick
- Mcushwa High School in Margate
The aim of the journey is to give back to all these school in a form of Deeds For Mandela.
As the late Nelson Mandela said,
“Education is the most powerful weapon that you can use to change the world.”
Therefore, our mission is to make a significant impact on the lives of the students we will be visiting during today’s tour.
Today, as we celebrate this important day, the team will be participating in various activities. These include distributing food parcels, painting the school’s infrastructure, and rebuilding the netball courts and soccer grounds in the school’s playground. We will also be providing essential toiletries and addressing other important needs that the schools have requested. We believe that by providing these essential items, we can help improve the lives of those facing challenging circumstances.
As a station, we have always prioritized helping those in need. In our 18th year, our theme “Year Of The Goat, Greatest Of All Time” reflects our dedication to making a positive impact since our inception. Today is no different – our mission is to raise awareness and improve the living standards of students in these four schools.
Every year, on 18 July, we will always take the time to create a positive impact in our communities in and around KZN. This is done by dedicating 67 minutes of our time to honor the extraordinary life and legacy of Nelson Mandela.
