GAGASI FM, THE SOUND OF KZN, CELEBRATES A TRAILBLAZER: DR NOMUSA DUBE-NCUBE ON BEING AWARDED PHD IN ADMINISTRATION FROM UKZN

Durban, South Africa – 13 May 2025 — Gagasi FM, The Sound of KZN, proudly congratulates the Honourable Dr. Nomusa Dube-Ncube, former Premier of KwaZulu-Natal, on achieving a Doctor of Administration degree from the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN). This remarkable milestone was officially conferred on Monday, 12 May 2025, marking another historic chapter in the illustrious journey of KwaZulu-Natal’s first female Premier.

A lifelong public servant, accomplished diplomat, and passionate change-maker, Dr. Dube-Ncube continues to be a beacon of excellence for the province and the nation at large. Her doctoral research, titled Legislative and Institutional Arrangements for Poverty Alleviation in iLembe District Municipality in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, was supervised by UKZN’s esteemed public governance scholars, Professor Purshottama Sivanarain Reddy and Dr Nduduzo Ndebele.

In her research, Dr. Dube-Ncube interrogates the institutional shortcomings that hamper the effective implementation of the Poverty Eradication Master Plan in the iLembe District, an area identified as the second poorest district in KwaZulu-Natal. Her work contributes meaningfully to the ongoing discourse around poverty alleviation and policy implementation in rural and peri-urban South Africa, reinforcing her lifelong commitment to transformative governance and sustainable development.

As a provincial broadcaster that champions progress and celebrates excellence rooted in KwaZulu-Natal, Gagasi FM acknowledges this academic milestone not only as a personal achievement for Dr. Dube-Ncube but also as a powerful message to our communities: Education knows no age or limit—education is lifelong.

Born and raised in KwaMashu, Dr. Dube-Ncube has long embodied the spirit of perseverance and servant leadership. Her dedication to public service spans decades, with a distinguished career that includes:

  • Serving as Premier of KwaZulu-Natal from May 2019 to June 2024, becoming the province’s first woman to hold the post;
  • Former South African Ambassador to the Czech Republic;
  • MEC for FinanceMEC for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs, and MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs in KwaZulu-Natal;
  • Member of the KwaZulu-Natal Climate Change Council;
  • Board Member of the 911 Fund, a New York-based NGO founded by former U.S. President Barack Obama.

Her academic achievement is not just a personal victory but a victory for young girls, emerging leaders, and all citizens of KwaZulu-Natal who believe in the power of education to transform lives.
