The Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg will today hear the MK Party’s urgent case against the SABC.

The party has challenged the public broadcaster’s use of the term “government of national unity,” arguing that the current political arrangement does not fit the definition of this term.

Filed last month, the case includes claims from former president Jacob Zuma and the MK Party that the SABC is adopting a “patently inaccurate and subjective” definition of the prevailing political situation. The MK Party alleges that the broadcaster is deliberately misleading the public and seeks a court declaration that the SABC’s conduct is unconstitutional.

In response, the SABC opposes the application, describing the claims as an attempt to apply “undue political pressure” and undermine media freedom.
