The Department of Health in the province has launched an urgent investigation after a distressing video surfaced on social media depicting the assault of a 13-year-old boy by security guards at Ladysmith Hospital.

The viral video shows the boy being assaulted in his hospital bed.

Department spokesperson Mdu Ncalane says the guards have been dismissed by their security company, and internal disciplinary actions have been initiated against the implicated nursing staff.
