Richards Bay FC coach Vusumuzi “Kanu” Vilakazi says Royal AM is one of the teams they are targeting in a bid to avoid relegation as we approach the business end of the 2023/24 Dstv Premiership season.
The Natal Rich Boyz will welcome their KZN rivals at the King Zwelithini Stadium on Saturday, looking to build on their Nedbank Cup 3-2 triumph over Polokwane City at the same venue. John Maduka’s men go into the derby on a 3-match winless run in the league, with their last win coming against Richards Bay in December last year.
Thwihli Thwahla currently occupies 14th position on the log, six points ahead of the Natal Rich Boyz and find themselves closer to the top eight than they are to the relegation zone. Vilakazi’s men are in fifteenth position with a six points gap between themselves and bottom side Cape Town Spurs with thirteen matches to go.
Speaking on Extratime on Gagasi FM with Simtho Dladla and Mike Makaab, Vilakazi says Royal AM is one of the teams they are targeting to steer themselves from the drop zone.
“Derbies are always nice but this one will be different, said Vilakazi.
“We find ourselves chasing each other in terms of trying to survive relegation. I will be honest, they are our targets because when you look at our points and you look at their points and also iChippa and Swallows. All those three are our targets so unfortunately as much Komkhaya (our home boys) and we would love to have too many teams in Durban or KZN but unfortunately this time we find ourselves chasing each other.”
The KZN derby will be played at the King Zwelithini Stadium, kick off 20:00
