Police in KwaZulu-Natal say they are working to arrest those behind the burning of vehicles and buildings in Durban last night.

Provincial police spokesperson Robert Netshiunda says they are already tracking some suspects.

14 vehicles and at least three commercial buildings were set alight during protests by anti-illegal migration activists in the CBD.

Netshiunda tells Gagasi FM News that more police have been deployed to monitor the situation today.

“We are not yet at the cleanup operation, we are still operating ensuring that there is public order in the CBD of Durban, the surrounding areas and other parts of the province.”

The KZN police spokesperson also added that the law enforcement is already on the hunt for those responsible for the vandalism incidents in the city.

“So police visibility is being maintained, the plan is ongoing, intelligence is on the ground and the search is on for those who were responsible for burning cars and trying to burn buildings.” said Netshiunda.

Rioting has also broken out in other parts of the country including some parts of the Soweto township in Gauteng, wherre incidents of torched cars were also reported on Thursday.”
