Football agent Mike Makaab has heaped praise on Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs youngsters Relebohile Mofokeng and Wandile Duba to shine in the Soweto derby, and believes both players could be the difference when the two sides meet in a DSTV Premiership clash at the FNB Stadium on Saturday.
The Soweto giants go into this clash looking to protect their recent unbeaten runs, Pirates are undefeated in three league matches, with the previous league defeat coming at home to Stellenbosch FC in November last year. However, the Bucaneers will go into the derby at the back of a dissapointing 1-all draw in midweek against bottom side Cape Town Spurs, and coach Jose Riveiro believes Saturday’s clash against their firce rivals will give his side a good platform to bounce back.
Relebohile Mofokeng has been one of the bright sparks in the Orlando Pirates team since making his senior debut at the club last season. The Skilfull midfielder netted his first league goal of the season for the Bucaneers in their 1-all draw against Cape Town Spurs in midweek action. The 19 year old was also on target when Pirates thrashed lower division side Crystal Lake 6-0 in the Nedbank Cup round of 32, and has a further three assists in all competitions.
Wandile Duba goes into the derby after making his first senior start at the club and scoring a blinder of a goal, which helped Amakhosi beat Lamontville Golden Arrows 1-0, and get their first win in 2024.
Speaking on Extratime on Gagasi FM with Simtho Dladla, Makaab says both youngsters should start the Soweto derby and believes they could be the difference for either teams in this clash.
“In my opinion you have to start with Duba and you’ve got to start with Mofokeng,” Said Makaab.
“These two youngsters are fearless, they although will feel the pressure of the derby don’t have the weight of the past on their shoulders, they are looking to the future they are looking to stamp themselves in the record books and history books as Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs icons. Without a doubt two very talented youngsters who could possibly hold the key to the outcome of the game”
