Football agent Mike Makaab has given an update on Manqoba Mgqithi’s future at Mamelodi Sundowns as he approaches the end of his contract at Chloorkop. Mgqithi’s contract with Sundowns is set to expire at the end of the 2023/24, which has brought speculation about his future at the reining DSTV Premiership champions. The former Golden Arrows coach served as the assistant coach to Pitso Mosimane for nine years, and moved over to being the Downs co-coach alongside Rhulani Mokwena and Steve Komphela in 2022. However, last season Manqoba was demoted to being the senior coach at the club with Rhulani taking over the hot seat.
The KZN born coach has been heavily linked with a move to Kaizer Chiefs in recent years, and the rumour mill is churning once again as Amakhosi search for a permanent coach to take over from stand-in coach Cavin Johnson. Speaking on Extratime on Gagasi FM with Simtho Dladla football agent Mike Makaab says Mgqithi is currently in talks with the Brazilians to renew his contract at the club.
“Manqoba is happy at the club, we have said this all along and now it depends on us coming to an agreement with the club to extend his contract,” Said Makaab.”
The football agent says the contract negotiations are still in the early days, but it’s only a matter of weeks before they are concluded.
“It’s still early days as far as the negotiations are concerned, but I am hoping that within the next 7 to 14 days, so within the next couple of weeks we will have more clarity on Manqoba’s future.
