Gagasi FM Sports specialist Mike Makaab has heaped praise on Kaizer Chiefs teenage sensation Mfundo Vilakazi after his latest cameo for Amakhosi. Vilakazi featured briefly in Chiefs’ 1-0 loss against KZN side Richards Bay FC at the King Zwelithini Stadium on Sunday. The result was their third league defeat in a row and a fourth one since the turn of the year, which has seen them drop to tenth on the DSTV Premiership standings with six matches to go in the league. Meanwhile, the Natal Rich Boyz have put some daylight between themselves and bottom side Cape Town Spurs in the relegation battle, with the KZN side now just six points away from escaping that play off spot.
The Amakhosi faithful had very little to cheer about in their latest set back, but a bright performance by the youngsters cheered some people at home and on the stands. Mike Makaab was one of the people who were impressed by the natural talent of young man who is affectionately known as “Obrigado” and says he is one of the most exciting players he has seen in recent years in South African football.
”I had the fortune of representing Jabu Mahlangu and I never thought that I would see another player with that innate talent, that unbelievable ability on the ball until I saw Mfundo Vilakazi,”said Makaab speaking on Extra time on Gagasi FM.
“He is probably one of the most exciting young players I have seen in this country for many many years. I just hope, and we (Pro Sport International) will obviously try and play our part, that he keeps his feet on the ground, but more importantly that the talent and skill isn’t coached out of him because you have got to encourage him to do what he is doing. He glides past defenders as if they don’t exist,” Makaab concluded.
