Gagasi FM football specialist Mike Makaab, who is the agent of Supersport United rising star Shandre Campbell, has responded to Gavin Hunt’s comments after the youngsters latest performance for Matsatsantsa. The 18 year-old netted twice to help his side cruise past Richards Bay FC 3-1 in a Nedbank Cup round of 16 clash at the King Zwelithini Stadium on Saturday. The two goals took Campbell’s goal tally to five for the season, and nine goal contributions in all competitions, as he continues to shine in his breakthrough season with the Tshwane club.

After the Nedbank Cup clash Hunt emphasized the importance of the youngster to keep his feet on the ground, and continue to improve on his all-round game. The 59 year old mentor believes he is the only person who always tell the young Campbell about his performances and where ne needs to improve.

Speaking on Extratime on Gagasi FM, Makaab has responded to Hunts reaction and echoes his comments, as he also believes Campbell needs to keep his feet firmly on the ground and continue to work on improving his game.

“I am happy that Gavin is taking that attitude with Shandre, I think it’s important that Shandre is never comfortable with what he is achieving, I think this is the only start of his career,” said Makaab.

“In Gavin Hunt he has a coach who will say it as it is, his going to give him the opportunity which we have seen he has done. The young man repaid him over the weekend, but Shandre has a lot to learn while he is on that mission, he is a top class youngster with a very smart head on his shoulder, humble and lets his feet do the talking. He admits himself that at times he needs to work a little bit harder on tracking back and the tactics employed by the team and the coach. So its always encouraging for a football coach to display that sort of attitude towards rising stars, they can never be satisfied by performances.”
