Nine Proteas players sign with international Netball teams

Netball South African has confirmed that nine of the fifteen Spar Proteas players who took part in the 2023 Netball World Cup have secured contracts with overseas based professional Netball teams. This comes after South Africa’s successful hosting of World Netball’s showpiece event, and the Spar Proteas finishing in sixth position in the World Cup and maintaining fifth place in the world rankings. The Spar Proteas will play in a three-test tour of Australia in late October before they join their new teams.

Players who received overseas contracts:

  1. Jeante Steyn – Southern Steel, New Zealand
  2. Elmere van der Berg – Manchester Thunder, England
  3.  Shadine van der Merwe – Manchester Thunder, England
  4.  Khanyisa Chawane – Celtic Dragons, Wales
  5. Lefebre Rademan –  Severn Stars, England
  6.  Nicola Smith – Loughborough Lightning, England
  7. Nichole Taljaard – London Pulse, England
  8.  Owethu Ngubane – Strathclyde Sirens, Scotland
  9.  Ine-Mari Venter –  Saracens Mavericks, England
