A KZN violence monitor says there’s an urgent need for police management in Durban  to boost their intelligence systems and training following a spate of attacks on eThekwini’s water officials.

Mary De Haas’s comments come after a department official was gunned down in Springfield on Tuesday.

She says this happened just months after a senior staff member attached to the same department was killed at his home in Mandeni, on the north coast.

In another incident, eight suspects were nabbed in connection with the murder of an independent contractor hired to repair water infrastructure in Inanda.

De Haas says corruption is a problem that’s gotten worse since 2016.
