South African rapper Nadia Nakai wins US award

South African hip-hop star Nadia Nakai has won another top award. Taking to social media, the rapper – who co-hosted the African Muzik Magazine Awards (Afrimmas) in Texas, US – shared the exciting news of bringing back the Best Female Southern African gong.
“I’m an Afrimma award winner. Thank you for my Best Female Southern African award. Winning Women in a Winning dress,” she wrote.
The other nominees were Ami Faku, Tamy Moyo, Mpho Sebina, DJ Zinhle, Sha Sha, Towela, Makhadzi and Tyla.
Vth Season‘s talented artists earned nominations in various categories, with South African Afro-pop sensation Ami Faku receiving a nod for Best Female Southern Africa, and Liberian AfroBeat singer and performer Jzyno securing a nomination in the Best Newcomer category.
The legendary AKA received nominations in the Best Male Southern Africa and Album Of The Year category for “Mass Country.” The unwavering support from the Megacy and fans, as well as the affection and backing for the Supa Mega were unmistakably demonstrated throughout the night, resulting in AKA winning the Best Male Southern Africa category.
Now in its 10th year, the awards recognise and celebrate notable musical works and artists across Africa. The biggest winners were Congolese singer Fally Ipupa, who took home the award for Best Francophone and Lifetime Achievement Award.
Nigerian singer Timaya received the Lifetime Achievement Award. Rema took home the Artist of the Year gong, while fellow Afrobeats singer Davido’s Timeless won Album of the Year.
Nadia has been one of Africa’s finest rappers for many years.
She made her first television appearance on the e.tv’s hip-hop show Shiz Niz, winning the Mixtape 101 competition – the first female to do so.
She rose to prominence in September 2013, when she released her debut single Like Me.
Bragga, as she is affectionally referred to, also won two awards at the South African Hip Hop Awards for Best Female and Best Video, two awards at the All-Africa Music Awards, The Basadi Awards, and the SA Style Awards.
