The Springboks camp has been hit by a couple of key injuries at the on-going 2023 Rugby World Cup in France. The latest blow being that of hooker Malcolm Marx who has been ruled out of the Rugby World Cup with a long term injury. Marx picked up the knock in training on Wednesday, leaving the Boks with Bongi Mbonambi, Deon Fourie and Marco Van Staden as cover at hooker. Marx was not included in the Boks squad for their second Pool B match against Romania on Sunday. The 29 year old will not be replaced in the squad at this stage.
The Marx injury comes while the Boks are still sweating on the availability of lock Eben Etzebeth for their crucial match against Ireland on 23 September. Etzebeth left the field with a shoulder injury in the Boks opening match of the tournament against Scotland in Marseille. Marvin Orie and Jean Kleyn will start in the second row for the Boks on Sunday against Romania while public will be waiting to hear on the fitness of Etzebeth ahead of the Ireland clash.
