Bafana Bafana are gearing up for the 2024 Cosafa Cup as they will clash with neighbours Mozambique at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Wednesday 26 June. South Africa will be looking to go one better than the previous regional tournament where they were beaten in the semi finals by eventual Champions Zambia – and went on to claim the bronze medal under the tutelage of Morena Ramoreboli.

In this year’s edition South Africa will be led by Helman Mkhelele who has called up an exciting squad of young players who have lit up the PSL in recent years. In group A, Mkhelele’s men will battle it out against the Mambas of Mozambique, Botswana and Eswatini.

“As a team we are excited and looking forward to the game tomorrow against Mozambique, even though we are aware that we are faced with a huge challenge because each and every team that comes up against Bafana Bafana raise their game so we are aware of the challenge. Looking at the players and the work that we have put in the couple of days that we have had, I believe that we are standing a good chance of doing well,” said the Bafana Bafana assistant coach.

Maximum concentration in making sure that we take the game to the Mozambicans and try to create as many goals scoring opportunities and score them, and defensively making sure that we don’t concede in the first minutes because that might work against us,” Mkhelele added.
