Springbok sevens forward David Brits says he’ll be looking to bring a calm and positive energy to the Blitzboks camp after being called up to the squad for this weekend’s Singapore Sevens tournament. Brits, who was on the standby list of the Blitzboks, has been called up to replace the injured Quewin Nortje in one of two changes to last weekend’s squad. The other switch sees winger Sebastiaan Jobb come in for Gino Cupido who has left the Blitzboks camp to train with the Junior Springboks.
The Blitzboks are coming from yet another disappointing showing at the Hong Kong Sevens, with a ninth place finish to show for their efforts at a tournament where they still haven’t won a title. Ahead of his first ever appearance in Singapore, Brits says he’s looking to bring a calm and positive energy to a camp that suffered a massive blow the previous weekend.
“Everyone knows what happened on the weekend, it is all things that we can control and I think that once we fix those things we are going to be back to our winning ways. No one in the team is panicking and I just want to come and bring in a calm and positive energy, lift the boys up and be a voice for the boys on the training field and try to bring their spirits back up. We put last weekend behind us and we can focus on Singapore.”
