Mamelodi Sundowns defender Grant Kekana has backed his teammate Ronwen Williams to scoop the PSL Player of the season award for 2023/2024. The Premier Soccer League announced the full list of nominees for the prestigious and highly anticipated awards ceremony. Sundowns shot stopper Williams walked away with three nominations including the coveted PSL Footballer of the Season award, the DSTV Premiership Player’s Player of the season and the goalkeeper of the season award.

Williams has been outstanding for the Brazilians in their record breaking campaign this season, keeping 15 cleansheets in 21 matches and only conceding 7 goals in the DSTV Premiership. His contributions has helped Masandawana clinch a seventh league title in a row, and reach 29 games unbeaten in the league this season (53 dating back to last season) with Cape Town City standing between them and a first ever invincible league finish in PSL history.

Speaking on Extratime on Gagasi FM Kekana has backed the Bafana Bafana captain to walk away with the biggest prize of the night at the 2024 PSL awards.

“I think Ronwen Williams has been absolutely phenomenal for us, he has been our 11th player with the ball and he is just growing in leapes and bounds every season setting the standard for modern day goalkeepers,” said Kekana.

“He’s achieving the most cleansheets, his pass accuracy is almost like an outfield player, so yah I would give mine (vote) to Ronwen Williams,” Kekana concluded.
