Political parties have welcomed the announcement by the Electoral Commission that the second and final voter registration weekend will take place in February 2024.
This signals that discussions between President Cyril Ramaphosa and the IEC are now at an advanced stage and near finalisation, with the election date likely to be announced early in the new year.
On February 3 and 4, the country’s 23 296 voting stations will be open from 8 to 5.
The first registration weekend last month saw 568 374 new registrations.
RISE Mzansi’s Mabine Seabe says the recent Constitutional Court judgment has also given the IEC the legal certainty it was looking for.
