Suspended Deputy National Police Commissioner for Crime Detection Shadrack Sibiya has been served with papers in his cell for a disciplinary hearing on the 5th of October.
He is currently in police custody, facing five charges, including rape, human trafficking and the alleged sexual grooming of a16-year-old girl.
Sibiya appeared briefly before the Randburg Magistrate Court on Tuesday where his case has been postponed to the first of October to allow for the state to respond to the evidence presented by a defence witness.
During his appearance, through his affidavit, he told the court that the 18 year old he was with at The Grand consented to sexual intercourse with him.
A few days after Sibiya’s arrest, Acting National Police Commissioner Puleng Dimpane welcomed the arrest of the Sibiya and released a statement expressing SAPS’s disappointment and condemning the alleged acts of the suspended senior cop.
Dimpane said police officers have a duty to protect women and children and must not be implicated in conduct that undermines this responsibility.
Following the recent revelations and court procedure, National police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe has confirmed that Sibiya will be facing disciplinary action.
Mathe said,”So we will be guided by the court but for now if he is still in custody we will then organise with correctional services to allow that particular hearing to sit down in Kgosi Mampuru on the 5th of October.”
She continued,” If he is out on bail, the venue where this particular hearing will be communicated to him. However we can confirm that he has been formally served.”
The suspended top officer is expected to return to court on Thursday where his bail hearing will resume.
