AmaZulu FC President Sandile Zungu says highly rated Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Manqoba Mngqithi has unfinished business with AmaZulu FC, and the door will always be open to him to return to the club, not only on a coaching capacity. Mngqithi, who is in the process of completing a new deal as head coach of Sundowns after the departure of Rulani Mokwena,  had a short stint at Usuthu between 2010 and 2011 and has been linked with a return to the club in recent years.

AmaZulu FC had a number of coaches coming through the door since the Zungu family took ownership of the club in October 2020, including Ayanda Dlamini, Alan Freese (interim), Benni McCarthy, Brandon Truter and Romain Folz all taking a shot at the Usuthu hot seat. Spanish mentor Pablo Franco Martin is the current coach of AmaZulu and heads into his second full season at the club in the 2024/24 season.

Speaking on Extratime on Gagasi FM Zungu has denied that Usuthu made attempts to bring Mngqithi back to KZN in the past few years, but admitted the door will always be open for the KZN-born tactician at the club.

“Let me state for a fact that Manqoba has unfinished business with AmaZulu,” said Zungu.

“The nice thing about coaching is that you can do it at least until you are 80, so he’s probably in his early 50s he’s got 25 years at the very least to come back and finish his businesses at AmaZulu. It doesn’t have to be as a head coach, it can be as an advisor, he may say I am tired of this (coaching) but I want to contribute towards AmaZulu taking its rightful place among the super brands in Africa, with his experience in the continent and elsewhere,” Zungu added

“He is one person that we have an open door policy towards each other, we talk from time to time. He is someone that I strongly and deeply admire, and I know the sentiment is shared. The truth is no, in the last couple of seasons we have not tried to lure him into AmaZulu, I know he cares deeply about the well-being of AmaZulu,” Zungu concluded.
