Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Ronald Lamola has emphasised the need to translate bilateral commitments into tangible economic benefits.

He participated in the Third Session of the South Africa–Uganda Joint Commission for Cooperation in Pretoria yesterday.

Lamola says the two countries had significant opportunities to expand cooperation in transport, mining, energy, agriculture agro-processing, manufacturing, infrastructure, financial services, telecommunications and tourism.

He has also welcomed Uganda’s emphasis on economic diplomacy and on converting diplomatic engagement into tangible trade and investment opportunities.

“Uganda is a significant player in the continent but also inn East Africa’s economy, it’s one of the fastest growing economies in East Africa.”

“So, it becomes a very key partner for South Africa and for us to work with Uganda. Already there is a number of work we have done on knowledge exchange on health which we have to build on,” said Lamola.

At the Third Session of the South Africa–Uganda Joint Commission of Cooperation on 20 October 2026, South Africa highlighted opportunities in transport, mining, energy, agriculture, agro-processing, manufacturing, infrastructure, financial services, telecommunications and tourism.
