Deputy Minister in the Presidency, Nonceba Mhlauli is urging young people to actively participate in democratic processes, starting by voting.

She adds that the youth should attend ward and council meetings and take part in municipal decision-making processes post the elections.

Millions of South Africans will head to polls tomorrow to cast their ballot for Mayors and preferred councilor candidates in the Local Government Elections.

Mhlauli says those who will not participate in the election risk having decisions made on their behalf when they do not participate in platforms that shape their communities.

“So attend the meetings, participate in our democracy but most importantly on the 4th of November, go out to vote.”

“We are currently 32 years into our democratic dispensation and all of the strengths that we have made in the past 32 years is because of those that have fought for this hard earned democracy but also most importantly those who have ultimately participated in the democratic systems over the past 32 years,” said Mhlauli.

Less than 24 hours remain before the Local Government Elections get underway, with more than 29 million people expected to cast their votes to elect councillors and mayors of their choice.
