All-rounder Wiaan Mulder will captain the Proteas for the first time when they face Zimbabwe in the second test after the injury of skipper Keshav Maharaj. The captain for the series suffered a left-groin strain while batting in the first test when the Proteas thrashed Zimbabwe by 328 runs at the Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo.
Maharaj will return home to undergo further assessments to determine the extent of the injury, while Senuran Muthusamy will get a run in the team as his replacement. Mulder will captain the Proteas test side for the first time and will be looking to build from his impressive performance in the first test where he scored his second test century (147 runs from 206 balls) and also took four wickets.
The second test will take place at the Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo, starting on Sunday 6 July.
