Independent platform Real 411, used for reporting election disinformation, has registered 34 complaints comprising misinformation, incitement to violence, hate speech, and harassment.
Government deputy spokesperson William Baloyi says all South Africans have a responsibility to stand up against misinformation and disinformation and report it.
Meanwhile, the Electoral Commission has warned against misleading social media videos showing officials handling ballot boxes saying they could undermine public confidence in the electoral process.

South Africans are voting in the Local Government Election today, with voting stations expected to close at 9pm this evening.
IEC CEO Sy Mamabolo says videos currently rotating on social media are being shared without context .., fuelling unconfirmed claims of election fraud.
He says transferring special ballots into main ballot boxes is part of the standard electoral procedures.
Mamabolo has urged political parties and civil society to avoid inflammatory statements that misrepresent the voting process.
