“Vilakazi has do decide if he wants to continue playing” Makaab

Gagasi FM Sports specialist Mike Makaab says Sibusiso Vilakazi is yet to make a decision about his future after his contract was not extended at Sekhukhune United. The Limpopo-based outfit opted against exercising the one-year option on Vilakazi’s contract which makes him a free agent after spending two seasons at the club. Vilakazi failed to make any starts in 2023/24 season for Babina Noko, making eight appearances from the bench without finding the back of the net. Speaking on Extratime on Gagasi FM, his agent Mike Makaab says the former Bafana Bafana star is currently working on his coaching badges and has to decide if he wants to continue playing football at the highest level, or hang up his boots to pursue a coaching career. ”

“Vila and I had a long discussion, as you know he won’t be at Sekhukhune United, they did not exercise the option, but we understood that it was never going to be the case,” said Makaab. “What Vila has to decide upon now, he’s already started his coaching badges, what he needs to decide upon is he going to focus all of his energy in his new career, which will be football coaching cause he is passionate about it and I think he is going to do well, he is a smart guy with a lot of understanding of the game and that is important, he has played under some top coaches as well. He’s gotta make that decision, does he focus his energy on that or does he look at possibly playing for one more season, we will come to some sort of agreement in the next couple of weeks, no doubt,” Makaab added.

Makaab believes Vilakazi still has it in him to compete at the highest level in South African football, comparing his situation to that of Andile Jali who is also in the tail end of his football career but still looking to stay and compete in the game. “I think it’s important for players like Vila, like Andile Jali to make that decision themselves and not be influenced by outside circumstances. I know for a fact that if Vila makes that decision (to continue playing) he is going to get himself into top class shape,” Makaab concluded.
