The ANC has welcomed the outcomes of trade union federation COSATU’s 15th National Congress and the resolutions adopted.

One of the key resolutions adopted is that the union federation will support both the ANC and the South African Communist Party  in the November local government elections.

This is despite the SACP deciding to contest the elections independently of the tripartite alliance.

The ANC’s national spokesperson, Mahlengi Bhengu, says the party will work with COSATU’s new leadership to advance the vision of a better life for all.

“The 15th congress has confirmed the centrality and leadership of women amongst its ranks in society by electing women in its helm, ensuring equal representation in its ranks,” said Bhengu.

On Wednesday, the Union elected Mike Shingange as its new president while Susan Khumalo elected Deputy President.

Former President Zingiswa Losi moved to General Secretary after serving for over eight years since assuming the position in September 2018.
