President Cyril Ramaphosa says racial inequality and poverty remain among the most pressing challenges facing South Africa today.
Delivering his response to the presidency’s budget vote in Parliament, Ramaphosa highlighted the enduring legacy of apartheid-era policies, which favoured white citizens and entrenched deep economic disparities that continue to affect millions.
He emphasised that the recently formed government of national unity must prioritise inclusive economic growth, job creation, and the reduction of inequality in order to build a fairer and more prosperous society for all South Africans.
“This is a pivotal moment for our country,” Ramaphosa said. “We must continue the work of transformation with urgency and unity, ensuring that no South African is left behind.”
The President’s remarks come amid growing public concern over high unemployment, rising living costs, and slow progress in addressing structural inequality, particularly in historically disadvantaged communities.
