The Independent Electoral Commission in the uMgungundlovu District has confirmed that a recount of votes for Sobantu is underway at the Results Centre, following a dispute over the results between the MK Party and the ANC yesterday.
District Electoral Officer Khulekani Mdadane says the Commission has also completed counting in six municipalities.
The recount follows a confrontation between the two parties yesterday, which resulted in a dispute over the Sobantu results.
Mdadane says the Commission subsequently decided that a recount should be conducted. He says they anticipate completing the counting process by tomorrow afternoon.

“Right now we are 35% into capturing in uMsunduzi. One of the challenges we have in Sobantu is that we do have stations where our stuff counted up to three or four times in our station.”
“It is common knowledge that we only count once and if there are complaints, we count for a second time, we don’t go up to three or four times. However because of pressure on our stuff we ended up agreeing to count multiple times,” says Mdanana.
