Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) president Velenkosini Hlabisa has pledged to take extra measures to protect women from Gender Based Violence as a major election manifesto promise.
On Sunday, the IFP held it’s 2026 manifesto launch in kwaMashu, North of Durban. The manifesto consisted of a five point plan that the party vowed to implement should it get voted into any municipality in the upcoming local government elections.
Hlabisa opened his address by passing his condolences to the families of the Kempton Park murder victims and called for stricter punishment against perpetrators.
Gauteng police are currently investigating the case of the body’s of nine women which were found in parts of Kempton Park and the greater Ekurhuleni Municipality. These body’s were found within a space of two months, starting from July and most of which were discovered wounded and some with signs of having been raped.
Hlabisa called out all men to avail themselves and protect the women and children around them. The IFP president also called for stricter punishment for the perpetrators of femicide should they be found and convicted.
“They must be given life sentence to rot in jail without the option of parole.”
“We commend the work that has been done by the SAPS to follow the tracks in order to arrest these predators. We are confident that the police assisted by our citizens will soon arrest these monsters,” said Hlabisa.
The IFP president further revealed that tackling Gender Based Violence and femicide is point number five in the party’s five point manifesto.
Hlabisa vowed to provide personal protective services by giving out pepper sprays, provision and promotion of self defence classes for women in municipalities where the party would be voted in.
