KwaZulu-Natal SASSA Regional Manager Thamo Mzobe has been placed on precautionary suspension pending the handling of several matters dating back to her tenure as CEO of the National Development Agency.

In a statement, SASSA says the suspension follows a request from the agency and the Department of Social Development to institute disciplinary proceedings.

The decision is described as an administrative measure conducted in accordance with established policies and procedures.

Meanwhile, Social Development minister Dina Pule says South Africans deserve to have government services closer to them, as this allows communities to access information in one location.

She is leading an integrated community outreach programme in Mthatha Eastern Cape, bringing government services closer to residents.

“We are bringing all departments that are relevant here, people from the department of Home Affairs. So we have to make sure that we bring government closer to the rural communities.”

“When we look leave here, we make sure that families get the necessary support,” said Pule.
