KwaZulu-Natal Transport MEC Siboniso Duma has reaffirmed the province’s commitment to building resilient and sustainable road infrastructure.
Duma was speaking at the Transport Indaba 2026, held at the Durban International Convention Centre.
The conference follows the launch of Transport Month, highlighting the economic importance of transport while promoting safe and reliable public infrastructure.
Duma says rebuilding infrastructure after disasters places a significant strain on the department.
“KZN is a province to be susceptible to adverse weather conditions that often wrack havoc to our transport and infrastructure.”
“The obvious callout from this is that we must carryout serious repair and work at times, build new huge infrastructure hubs,” said Duma.
The MEC said the province must continue investing in infrastructure that can withstand extreme weather while ensuring that roads remain accessible to communities and businesses.
He says resilient transport infrastructure is essential to supporting economic activity, reducing disruptions and improving the safety and reliability of the province’s road network.
The discussions at the Indaba are expected to create a foundation on strengthening collaboration between government and stakeholders to address the province’s infrastructure challenges.
