KwaZulu Natal Transport MEC Siboniso Duma has urged motorists to always drive with caution on the road.

This follows Tuesday afternoon’s fatal crash on the N3 near Van Reenen, towards Ladysmith in the north western part of KZN which claimed six lives.

The accident involved two trucks and a double-cab bakkie. Duma says being vigilant and always cautious on the road can save lives.

The department’s Ndabezinhle Sibiya says the cause of the crash is yet to be confirmed. He also expressed the MEC’s condolences to the families of the victims.

“The MEC has expressed his deepest condolences to the families of the victims.” said Sibiya.

For the past two days, the province has endured severe weather conditions, including heavy rains and thunder. Thus, this has exposed motorists to slippery and flooded roads across the province.

On Tuesday, the South African Weather Service in KZN issued a Level 4 warning for Severe Thunderstorms in various areas across the province.
