Deputy President Paul Mashatile has emphasised the importance of strengthening relations between South Africa and China, particularly through deeper collaboration in key strategic sectors.
Speaking ahead of his official visit, Mashatile highlighted areas such as renewable energy, logistics, pharmaceuticals, mineral beneficiation, and the digital economy as critical for South Africa’s economic growth and development. He noted that these sectors offer significant potential for bilateral cooperation and mutual benefit.
The Deputy President is scheduled to depart for China this morning, accompanied by a delegation that includes several Cabinet Ministers. The group will participate in the China International Supply Chain Expo, a major platform for global trade and investment discussions.
Mashatile’s spokesperson, Keith Khoza, confirmed that the Deputy President’s itinerary includes a focused bilateral programme.
“The visit aims to consolidate economic partnerships and foster dialogue between the two nations, particularly in sectors aligned with South Africa’s development priorities,” Khoza said.
China remains one of South Africa’s largest trading partners, and the two countries share a strong diplomatic relationship under the BRICS framework. The visit is expected to explore opportunities for increased investment, technology transfer, and enhanced market access for South African goods.
