Deputy President Paul Mashatile has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to working alongside South African farmers to tackle the challenges facing the agricultural sector.
Mashatile made the remarks during his visit to the NAMPO Harvest Day in Bothaville, Free State, on Thursday. The annual event, hosted by Grain SA, is one of the largest agricultural expos in the southern hemisphere, drawing thousands of farmers, agribusiness leaders, and stakeholders from across the country.
His appearance follows President Cyril Ramaphosa’s visit to the same event earlier in the week. Ramaphosa sparked controversy after commenting on Afrikaner farmers who have emigrated to the United States, calling it “the coward’s way out.”
Mashatile, however, struck a more supportive tone. “The farmers I spoke to at NAMPO have no intentions of leaving the country,” he said.
“They are committed to building the agricultural sector and working with the government to find solutions.”
