The uMkhonto weSizwe Party has welcomed the Electoral Court’s decision to set aside the objection by the Electoral Commission to bar Former President Jacob Zuma from running for Parliament.

The Party has expressed that this means they can now proceed with the business of elections.

Yesterday the Electoral Court sitting at the High Court in Johannesburg dismissed the IEC’s decision to disqualify Zuma from contesting the upcoming elections because of objections the commission received.

Following the release of candidate lists from political parties, more than 80 objections were submitted which the majority challenged Zuma’s name topping the MK party list.

This led to the IEC disqualifying him from running, the former statesmen then took up the matter with the Electoral Court to appeal the decision and won.

MK party’s spokesperson, Nhlamulo Ndhlela, says this is a major victory for the party ahead of the 29 May general elections.
