Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Police, has called on the police to investigate any alleged criminal conduct involving deputy national police commissioner Shadrack Sibiya and pursue charges where warranted.
On Monday, the former SAPS senior cop announced his resignation from SAPS as he faced disciplinary proceedings over serious allegations of corruption, abuse of power and links to the criminal underworld.
He has been accused of ordering the removal of 121 case dockets from the KwaZulu-Natal Political Killings Task Team following Matlala’s arrest.
Sibiya was suspended from his position as SAPS Deputy National Commissioner in September 2025 following the revelation of these allegations.
He says the committee has always highlighted that rogue elements … must be surgically removed from the system to enable it to operate effectively.
Committee chairperson, Ian Cameron, has warned that Sibiya’s departure from the service must not shield him from accountability.
“Sibiya’s resignation is no clean exit, SAPS has confirmed that it amounts to a dishonarable discharge. He faces serious disciplinary charges while serious questions remain about the handling of the 121 PKTT dockets which sat for months without any investigation.,” said Cameron.
