The Presidency says President Cyril Ramaphosa acted within the law when he appointed retired Gauteng deputy judge president Phineas Mojapelo, to head the panel that investigated the Lady R controversy.
The Democratic Alliance (DA) has approached the courts to challenge the constitutionality of Mojapelo’s appointment.
The panel found that there was no evidence of arms loaded onto the Russian Lady R vessel in Simon’s Town, Western Cape in December last year.
Ramaphosa’s spokesperson, Vincent Magwenya, says the president is confident that Mojapelo’s appointment will withstand scrutiny.
