The South African Communist Party says it is ready to contest the upcoming local government elections in November, after submitting its candidate lists to the Electoral Commission of South Africa.
This will be the first time the SACP contests the election as an independent organisation, as it will be also going against its Tripartite Alliance partner, the ANC.
It will field 4418 ward candidates across the country, while also contesting proportional representation seats.
SACP General Secretary Solly Mapaila says their candidate lists are the product of a long engagement process with communities that also informed its manifesto priorities.
UMapaila uchaze wathi, “The list includes community candidates who are not necessarily SACP members. This suggests that we are not going in it alone as others have suggested.”
