The Activists and Citizens Forum says suspended Deputy National Police Commissioner Shadrack Sibiya has a golden opportunity to come clean by placing the truth before the Madlanga Commission, where he is set to appear for a fourth day of testimony.
Forum spokesperson Dennis Bloem says Sibiya is shifting the blame for the disbandment of the Political Killings Task Team squarely onto the shoulders of a colleague.
The Political Killings Task Team, established in KwaZulu-Natal to investigate politically motivated murders, was credited with making significant breakthroughs in several high-profile cases. Its disbandment sparked concern among civil society groups, who argued that the unit played a critical role in tackling political violence in the province.
The Madlanga Commission, chaired by Acting Deputy Chief Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga, is probing allegations related to governance and operational decisions within the South African Police Service (SAPS).
The forum has called for full transparency, saying the commission presents an important platform to restore public confidence in law enforcement institutions.
