The United Democratic Movement’s eThekwini Regional Secretary Boysey Gumede has revealed that the party’s relevance and constituency in KZN is mostly affected by tribalism.

He was Speaking to our reporter Buhle Mbhele in an exclusive interview, as Gagasi FM News continues with special broadcasts building up to the local government elections set for the 4th of November.

Gumede says the party has taken the direction of focusing on work done by its councillors in municipalities such as Mtubatuba in the north of the province over a generic approach.

He says the fact that the President of the party Bantu Holomisa is of the Xhosa tribe has made it difficult for the UDM to campaign and even get votes in KZN municipalities.

“To set you a practical example, in 2021 I was a councillor candidate in Umsinga, KZN. The only thing the opposition used to defeat me was the rhetoric that, what is a Xhosa party doing here,” said Gumede.
