Eskom says ongoing adverse weather conditions, which have persisted daily throughout the festive season, have resulted in a sharp increase in network faults across its supply areas nationwide.
Spokesperson Daphne Mokwena says that while major disruptions in parts of the Eastern Cape have largely been resolved, several provinces – including KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo and the Free State – remain severely affected.
She says Eskom technical teams are on the ground and working around the clock to repair damaged infrastructure and restore electricity supply to affected communities. Areas such as Tzaneen and Mashashane in Limpopo are among those currently experiencing prolonged outages.
Mokwena has attributed the outages to heavy rainfall, strong winds and flooding, which are typical of the summer rainfall season but have been more intense in recent weeks.
Eskom has urged the public to exercise caution around fallen power lines and to report outages through its official channels while repair work continues.
