ANC Deputy Convenor Simon Motha has raised concerns about the party’s continued decline ahead of the 16th ANC Regional Conference of the Greater Johannesburg Region.
Delegates are expected to elect a new regional leadership structure that will steer the organisation in the city for the next three years.
Motha says key discussions at the conference should focus on how the ANC intends to revive itself and rebuild the trust of voters.
He emphasised that since 2009 the party has experienced a significant decline in support, driven by internal factionalism, poor service delivery, and the failure to achieve meaningful economic growth.
He added that restoring organisational unity and strengthening grassroots structures will be critical if the ANC hopes to regain lost ground, particularly in major metros such as Johannesburg where coalition politics and declining voter turnout have reshaped the political landscape.
The conference is expected to outline strategies to improve governance, enhance accountability, and reconnect with communities ahead of future elections.
